Jaguar E-Type flatfloor
Jaguar E-Type flatfloor
At the time of its launching in FHC (Fixed head coupe) body shape, at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1961, the XKE Series 1 (commercially designated E Type) was classified by Enzo Ferrari as “the most beautiful car ever made” (until then)!
Amongst the total of about 1400 copies produced that year (mostly for export), in both coupe and roadster body shapes, 478 units were produced with twin outside locking latches (386 units left-hand drive for export and only 92 right wheel for the British market), a peculiarity that currently makes these 478 survivors as absolute collectible rarities, together with the welded bonnet louvers and, for all S1’s produced in 1961, the ground underneath the seating gap and the wheel cavities completely smooth and straight (flatfloor).
The XKE used triple SU carburetors and the XK6 engine from the XK150S, the 3.8 liter capacity straight six cylinder engine, as well as the 4-speed Moss racing gearbox.
